Working With Children & Young People

Mental health problems in young people and children are rising at alarming rates. Factors that trigger this include – income and adversity, identity, family, and relationships.

The impact of Covid-19 for young people and children, who already had trigger factors to deal with, will be intensified. Many more children and young people are struggling with constant anxiety, a socially distanced world, and a stressful family home life.

Good mental health is about maintaining a good level of personal and social functioning. For children and young people, this means getting on with others, both peers and adults, participating in educative and other social activities, and having a positive self-esteem. Good mental health is about coping and adjusting to the demands of growing up.

What our clients say

  • “Great day generating new ideas, for children’s self-regulation.”

  • “Interactive with everyone - some great ideas discussed, not boring.”

  • “Very informative and well presented.”

  • “It was fun, informative and useful, 10 out of 10!”

Response to the pandemic

We are aware, through our work, research, and news, of the mental health issues facing children and young people as a direct result of the pandemic. The following targeted response can be facilitated through 1:1 therapy, group session, one-off workshops, and staff training –

  • Pupils who had mental health conditions pre pandemic.
  • Pupils showing signs of PTSD, anxiety, fear.
  • Bereavement and isolation.
  • Fear and anxiety transference, including key worker parents.
  • (including exploring vivid nightmares/ sleep patterns).
  • Eating disorders and issues connecting to self-harm Domestic neglect, exploration, or abuse
  • Pupils with SEND.

We strive to make therapy, informal, interactive, and fun.

Incorporating, storytelling, drama, art, music, and games, where appropriate.

We recognise that every child, young person, and school is unique and will have different requirements, we want to work with you to find the right solution for a targeted response.

Children – Early Intervention

At Chrysalis we aim to promote good mental health and wellbeing through storytelling, role play, art, and games, with an emphasis on mindfulness, self-regulation, and resilience. Our qualified therapists will empower children to monitor and manage their energy, emotions, thoughts, and behaviours in ways that are positive and productive. Promoting good mental health and well-being, loving relationships, and learning.

Resilience training enables children to ‘bounce back’ from difficult times, and cope in the face of adversity, trauma, or stress – all children have coping skills, they just might not be aware of them.

The benefit of early intervention:

  • Mitigate the effects of bullying
  • Enhance focus in children with hidden disabilities
  • Reduce attention problems
  • Improve social skills
  • Improve levels of happiness
  • Combats Anxiety
  • Increases feelings of calm
  • Helps to manage stress

Pre-school settings – Chrysalis can address fostering mindfulness with tools such as pictures, objects, food, simple movements, role play, storytelling and music.

Mental Health Workshops

Chrysalis mental health workshops are designed to be informative, interactive and fun. They can be tailored around the needs of your school or they can be focused on a specific subject such as anxiety, bullying, self harm…

Workshops are delivered by an experienced therapist, DBS and insurance covered.

Our workshops aim to:

  • Increase young people’s understanding of mental health and the different issues this can bring.
  • Reduce the stigma attached to mental health amongst young people. Making them more comfortable to talk about their own mental health and where to seek help should they or someone they know need it.
  • Support young people in managing their own stress levels and building resiliency skills.
