Working With Employees

Mental health-related absence is the most common cause of long-term sickness in UK workplaces. Work-related stress, depression or anxiety accounts for 44% of work-related ill health and 54% of working days lost, in 2018/19.

As well as sickness absence, poor mental health at work can lead to increased staff turnover, reduced engagement and high presenteeism.

  • Poor mental health costs to UK employers – £45 billion a year.
  • 12.8 million working days were lost due to work-related stress, anxiety or depression in 2019.
  • More than 90% of employees who make use of workplace counselling are highly satisfied with the service they have received, would use it again if necessary and would recommend it to colleagues.
